Jet Charter Not Just For CEOs
In the popular mind, the idea of a private jet charter calls to mind images of CEOs in designer three-piece suits enjoying champagne in luxurious surrounds. In reality, air charter companies exist to cater to a number of different clientele, and only a portion of the jets they charter are for corporate executives on the move.
The idea of an air charter service is, at its heart, to make air travel available on an on-demand basis rather than through pre-scheduled itineraries such as commercial airliners use. While this kind of convenience fits well with the needs of an executive with a busy schedule, the same convenience makes charter jets ideal for other uses. Sports teams charter jets in order to meet their grueling (and often unpredictable) season schedule. The same goes for musicians and actors, who often perform in cities on opposite sides of the world in the same week.
Another crucial source of revenue for the private jet charter industry is air ambulance service. Occasionally, patients with rare conditions or special needs do not have access to the treatment they need in their immediate region, but could be saved if they can get to a specialist in time. In this case, an air ambulance will rush them to their destination hospital. This service, while not necessary for most people, can be a literal life saver when it’s called for.
As fortunes change on Wall Street, the number of executives with a free pass to a private jet may be in question – but the industry as a whole still finds itself filling a crucial need, and won’t be in decline anytime soon.
